The cringe is inevitable, but there is a small chance that enough wokeness is built in to the storyline and casting. There are no white men cast as leads so maybe, just maybe, they'll focus on telling good stories instead of woke washing the series.
I also hope they end the fed, so I may just be a dreamer.
Just watched it. Damn Jon Favreau is such a good storyteller. I really like his stuff. I'm hoping beyond hope that he is an artist first, and a woke asshole second...and I suspect he is.
The Mandalorian has been one of the few things to come out of hollywood that has been worth a damn in a very long time. I suspect the only reason that the Marvel stuff was as decent as it was, was because Favreau was involved.
When the Mandalorian was giving the 'let's all fight together' speech in the bar, it totally reminded me of when Clint and the Chief had that meetup on horseback in 'Outlaw Josey Wales'...in a good way.
I liked Rogue One and I didn't even mind Solo overall but I think the further Jon takes Mandalorian away from the Star Wars movies, the better.
In fact, Mandalorian seems to be following the games 'Knights of the Old Republic, 1 & 2', which were pretty damned awesome. The finding the pearl in the worm's gut, was straight out of that.
I'll say it. This episode was awesome. Overall, the whole series so far has been. I'm probably going to have to do another run at KOTOR, which I totally recommend. It's old and the graphics are dated but it's all about gameplay, and that is pretty good.
What I enjoyed most about Rogue One was the only true glimpse of Darth Vader in his prime. They need to lean into that more. Plus, it tied the trilogies together. Love it or hate it, the content is what it is and continuity matters.
That being said, I believe the future is going to be things in the periphery of the SW universe like the Mandalorian. I can’t see a richer field of possibilities than the Mandalorian. The canon for Mandalor is deep and open, many threads can be followed to an infinite point.
Buts that the easy part, it’s up to writers to be able to perpetuate the stories in a fresh and entertaining way from production to production.
Unfortunately, the culture in the center of the entertainment industry is molding narrower and narrower paths by which creative people can channel their art.
Oh Kanye. His thoughts and ideas exceed his ability to communicate them. He’s had a breakthrough, but it’s like new software. The user interface sucks, it’s full of bugs and glitches. But if he can patch and update his inner software I think he could really reach people.
We could’ve been the art all along. But IP and corporatism took care of that. Factory style indoctrination centers keep us all thinking alike. Outliers are punished and ostracized from the few positive rewards within the structure. The workplace is just an extension of k-12/college.
If you don’t have mortgage debt forcing you to punch the clock everyday, then your student loans will replace that burden.
There’s more content now, then ever. But imagine the quantity and quality of content if we didn’t live in such a repressive society.
As I mentioned in an upthread post (or downthread depending on the predilections of your post ordering) much of the Mandalorian seems to parallel scenes in the games Knights of the Old Republic, KOTOR for short. It was set a thousand or so years before Luke and the folks roamed the universe, so doesn't have a direct connection other than the force, jedi and sith.
It's an old game (old enough that the lily has been thoroughly degilded) but the path you took was very open and dependent on your choices, while still constrained within physical boundaries and paths. The pearl in that bloody great worm was one of those things. In fact, that cave was a dead ringer for the one in the game. Both were on Tatooine and involved the sand dudes, tho the story itself was different.
I need to watch Justified again.

No doubt. It would be easy to really screw this up but much easier to make it continually great.
Saying art is dead is kind of a foregone conclusion now. Maybe we have to take Kanye's advice and become the art ourselves.

I'm just waiting to find out how the guy they showed at the end escaped the Sarlacc
Trying not to be a dick here.
I'll try this again:
I thought that armor looked familiar.
