What worried me the most is that Favreau was gonna go woke. We didn't see it in episode 1 of season 2 but I know a lot of us are cringing, waiting for it.
IMO, season one was the best Star Wars related content since Empire (although I did enjoy Rogue One but thought it was 20 minutes too long). Season 1 had enough lore included while capitalizing on the eternal fame of Boba Fett, and Yoda, by centering the premise around a chance meeting of a Soldier with an honor code and a creature whose origins are dubious outside of extended universe writings.
The ending of season 1 was about as perfect as you can get without being completely over the top. Setting up the premise of the series, when you consider how huge the SW universe is, means they can keep this on air for a long time as long as they don't “jump the shark.”
Episode 1, season 2 was as close to a perfect season opener as you could hope for including a guest spot from Timothy Olyphant (shout out to fellow Justified fans) and a badass sand creature that needed the help of Tusken Raiders to be defeated.
Sure, there are common tropes but I don't think it bothers most people. Again, the only thing that worries me at this point is the woke shit showing up. Hopefully Favreau, who seems to control the reigns almost single-handedly, won't fall for it. There were “woke" criticisms of season 1 that were ignored or ridiculed. Here's hoping that trend continues.
Long live Din Djarin and “the child.” Please don't fuck this up Jon!
I need to watch Justified again.
The cringe is inevitable, but there is a small chance that enough wokeness is built in to the storyline and casting. There are no white men cast as leads so maybe, just maybe, they'll focus on telling good stories instead of woke washing the series.
I also hope they end the fed, so I may just be a dreamer.
