Nerd! Also, I concur on most points. That said, I have a set of things I've been enjoying on TV, including Supernatural, Archer, R&M, Lucifer (the only police procedural I can stomach), The Expanse, etc. Been meaning to watch The Americans.

Can't wait for Expanse to come back on.

Make it to the end of the first episode of The Americans and you'll be hooked. Starts kinda slow.

Fair enough. I'm sad Expanse is only going 6 seasons, but they get to pick their ending, at least. The books are the shit. I saw the first episode and immediately stopped watching the show and read every book that existed at the time, then went to watch it. The show does a remarkably good job representing the story and characters.

I don't know why I haven't been asking you guys what the hell to watch. Talk about your slim pickings. I just remembered a charming little Irish series called Derry Girls. It's a hoot...not your normal bunch of smart ass schoolkids who are way more intelligent than ever adult. Kinda old school punk. Fun show.

I never watched 'The Americans' and never heard of Snowfall. I'll check out both. Most of the stuff coming out now is puke. Is it too much to ask for some decent fucking entertainment?

As for the Mandalorian...talk about a bright spot. It has that semi spaghetti western vibe of 3-5. (The only thing that really bugged me about the original trilogy were those fucking wookies). It's just what I've been looking for. A friend of mine turned me on to old tv westerns. Some are pretty good. Gunsmoke, for example...but not Bonanza cuz that wuz shite...and detective series like Columbo.

Old school 'conflict of the week' tv done right...character and dialogue driven, proper cheesy effects, heroes & bad guys. Who doesn't miss the black and white/good vs evil, simple, well crafted story telling? Fuck nuance. Give me more blowing bad guys out of the sky and cheering on the 'rough around the edges but you know they have a conscience' good guys, as they pose just so, shot in profile in front of the setting sun.

I like how they got the Mandalorian traveling in Boba's ship. Slick.

For sure somebody's going to turn on them. No doubt it will be to protect their family/planet/pet, but it'll still be a knife in the back.

One quibble. That rocket wasn't perfectly placed. Boba was aiming for the other one. I guess a guy gets a bit rusty out of his armor.

Ok. One more quibble. I wish the episodes were longer. As marvelous as they are, some of them feel a bit rushed. Maybe I just want me some more Mandalorian. Is that so bad?

Mostly...I want them, with every fiber of my being, to not fuck up the Mandalorian.

Also...'The Flight Attendant' has its moments.

On a separate note...The Simpsons and Family Guy are pure garbage now...probably have been for a while but tv has been so shitty they kinda slipped thru the cracks. I tried to watch Family Guy last night. 100% TDS dreck.

I thought the Nick Kroll created Big Mouth was twisted and funny tho slipping...but they really jumped the shark with a trans kid who bravely chose to take puberty blockers, a black suburban kid who's finding her blackness after her black dad was shaken down at the airport and her white mom got to keep her box cutter...etc, etc, etc. A perfect example of everything that is wrong with 'entertainment'.

It started out seriously pushing boundaries but now is full woke...but still trying to pretend to be pushing boundaries.

You can't be funny and woke. You can't. Full stop.

So, My eight year old hasn’t crossed off free Disney on his task list. Meanwhile, I have gotten into Riviera with Julia Stiles. *spoiler alert* It has all the crime and whatever without glorifying the govt or some social justice agenda. In fact, the Interpol guy who wants to punish the rich for not paying their taxes comes off as the first creepy villain you want put in his place. His tactics of torturing the hero so he can wear her down (cops do it in every criminal investigation I’ve ever heard of to get bad confessions) ends up biting him in the arse. Anyway, I like capers and this one has more of a Thomas Crown Affair vibe to it. Of course, it is pretty over the top on the drama and finding out whose kid is whose. Since I come from a wealthy family with an aunt/cousin in it, I can completely believe that is pretty likely to happen in the setting and the major characters all doing their mundane errands in high end sports cars the likes of which I have never dreamed makes up for the “extra.”

Just watched Season 2, Episode 8. I'm assuming it's the season finale. I gotta say...I have mixed emotions about the way it ended. My gut says I didn't like the turn they took.

Dunno. Going to mull it over for a bit.
