When the credits rolled and it showed that Robert Rodriguez directed it I was like, “well, that makes sense.” Over the tops effects, a dramatic entrance by one of the most beloved characters in the “universe” and someone back from the dead. Yep, RR was the perfect person to direct it. And when the hell are we going to find out how Boba got out of the Sarlaac?! Fun facts, the actor who plays Boba, Temuera Morrison, played Jango Fett in “Attack of the Clones” and Commander Cody in “Revenge of the Sith.”
The return of Fennec Shand, Ming-Na Wen, would’ve made more of an impact on me but I had completely forgotten about her character. I’m wondering if anyone feels like I do in that she’s gonna turn on them. I don’t trust her.
Man did they kill a lot of storm-troopers in that episode. Gruesome deaths too. Boba putting the star at the top of the Christmas tree with that “perfectly placed” rocket was a nice touch.
I guess the big question is with Grogu connecting with the force, is he more powerful now? He was rag-dolling those storm-troopers but he still appears to be weakened by using his powers. Or is it a charade? Nevertheless, his being captured by Moff Gideon was inevitable and, in my opinion, will not be resolved before next season (whenever that is).
Seeing Boba in his armor was fanboy time. As someone who grew up on the ‘Holy Trilogy” it was goose-bumps. Where they go with this and how Din and Boba will part ways is something that I look forward to seeing. At this point I’m just glad there’s something on TV I look forward to watching. Since “The Americans” ended and the fourth season of Snowfall was pushed back to next year the pickings have been slim for my “refined” tastes.
Nerd! Also, I concur on most points. That said, I have a set of things I've been enjoying on TV, including Supernatural, Archer, R&M, Lucifer (the only police procedural I can stomach), The Expanse, etc. Been meaning to watch The Americans.
I don't know why I haven't been asking you guys what the hell to watch. Talk about your slim pickings. I just remembered a charming little Irish series called Derry Girls. It's a hoot...not your normal bunch of smart ass schoolkids who are way more intelligent than ever adult. Kinda old school punk. Fun show.
I never watched 'The Americans' and never heard of Snowfall. I'll check out both. Most of the stuff coming out now is puke. Is it too much to ask for some decent fucking entertainment?
As for the Mandalorian...talk about a bright spot. It has that semi spaghetti western vibe of 3-5. (The only thing that really bugged me about the original trilogy were those fucking wookies). It's just what I've been looking for. A friend of mine turned me on to old tv westerns. Some are pretty good. Gunsmoke, for example...but not Bonanza cuz that wuz shite...and detective series like Columbo.
Old school 'conflict of the week' tv done right...character and dialogue driven, proper cheesy effects, heroes & bad guys. Who doesn't miss the black and white/good vs evil, simple, well crafted story telling? Fuck nuance. Give me more blowing bad guys out of the sky and cheering on the 'rough around the edges but you know they have a conscience' good guys, as they pose just so, shot in profile in front of the setting sun.
I like how they got the Mandalorian traveling in Boba's ship. Slick.
For sure somebody's going to turn on them. No doubt it will be to protect their family/planet/pet, but it'll still be a knife in the back.
One quibble. That rocket wasn't perfectly placed. Boba was aiming for the other one. I guess a guy gets a bit rusty out of his armor.
Ok. One more quibble. I wish the episodes were longer. As marvelous as they are, some of them feel a bit rushed. Maybe I just want me some more Mandalorian. Is that so bad?
Mostly...I want them, with every fiber of my being, to not fuck up the Mandalorian.
