One thing I have not seen addressed is the fact that this is supposed to take place five years after the 2nd Death Star is destroyed and the Empire is decimated, yet many locations are worse off or the same.
It was the same in Ukraine. I lived there for a couple of years. At least half of the people pined for the good ole days of the USSR. They'd rather have 1 potato guaranteed than have to work for a bag of potatoes. They'd rather wait in line all day, than pay one penny for faster health care.
I like how they portrayed that town on Tatooine. The empire left and warlords took over. So the people fought back on their own and pushed the warlords out and they ended up building an agorist/libertarian society. Then, they made a deal with a foe, to fight a common enemy.
