Whenever I see people saying, "I can't imagine why anyone would do that" or "I couldn't do that", I just hear "either I lack self awareness, and so self-discipline, and would readily do worse in the same circumstance; or else I would let this happen to people I care about because I am too out of touch with my own savagery to protect them".
There are differences between individuals and groups, but none of us lacks an ancestral history of horrific savagery, and no ideology or indoctrination reliably contains it. Even if you could you wouldn't want to, because those who did would be helpless against those who chose not to.
Civilization is a carefully maintained illusion that can exist only under conditions of mutual trust and shared values.
Is there any doubt that on the current trajectory, we’re only about 10 years away from the Left calling for the execution of non-believers in the interest of “public health” and “combating the scourge of White Supremacy” ??? These obese and blue haired rabid “progressives” are fully indoctrinated and would have little compunction about supporting our eradication. In fact, many would directly participate.
This is why I waste little time & emotion getting worked up over our supposed “enemies” in Moscow, Beijing or Tehran. Do they mean us harm? Possibly, but the internal scourge is the real threat.
Being from LA allowed me to realize DECADES ago the depth to which the broader Left feels about “us”. We are lower than sidewalk scum on skid row in their warped minds.
The irony of Americans being shocked, horrified & indignant about this country or that country engaging in warfare is rich. Meanwhile, we’re too fat, stupid, distracted, privileged and indoctrinated to consider our forays into Serbia, Iraq (multiple times), Somalia, Libya, Syria and Afghanistan - not to mention our illegal entry into World War One or the countless coups that we’ve initiated over the past century.
Damn! Every time I think "Pete has reached the zenith of wisdom and truth; he can't get/write any better..." you produce a gem like this essay. Thank you and Thank you.
I was reading a page about the current conflict in Israel and whether or not it was allowed to happen and in the middle of the responses was a highly liked post that was aghast that violence still happened and humanity had not moved past people being awful towards each other, basically the same retarded whig history and 7th level derivative enlightenment thought you get from people who watch too much Star Trek. I immediately thought about thought about you when I saw it.
Great essay, Pete. Reminds me of The Judge’s speech from Blood Meridian:
“It makes no difference what men think of war, said the judge. War endures. As well ask men what they think of stone. War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner. That is the way it was and will be. That way and not some other way.”

Precisely correct.

They would kill us and believe they were good people for doing it.
Yup. That seems to be a common theme with genocides thru ought history.

We have war because man is fallen.
