I’ve pretty much resigned myself to the fact that until the day I shuffle off this mortal coil I’m going to be subjected to the “it’s a private company” argument from “libertarians.” They’ve spread this asinine slogan so far and wide that they have progressives and neo-liberals now quoting it. Whereas the “libertarian” spews this “private company” rhetoric out of laziness and dogma, the other two groups are using it to push a totalitarian agenda in whatever way they can.
Saw a post from "Libertarian Homeschooler" yesterday about how vaccine passports are no big deal and a distraction and to "ignore them." I had to stop and school her as she had told people in comments about the "private company" nonsense followed by how people in the US have historically resisted tyranny. I was like, "history??? where have you been while all the private businesses demanded masks? fuck history!" I told her if she wasn't willing to stand up and fight the culture war she was going to be part of a historic level bloody revolution waiting for these jerks who control the narratives and perceptions of the business owners insist everyone wants masks and vax and vax pass.
Great observation. I too am tired of hearing "we need to do x to get back to normal." When normal didn't require x.
