Stress is not something anyone plans for when they go on vacation, but it always seems to follow you. With the decline of customer service, a trip to a restaurant or even a grocery store can be an adventure. Most people who are working don’t appear to want to be there and have no problem letting you know. And the ones that are there to do their job seem to get less competent with every passing day.
I did a lot of moving around on the trip I just returned from, staying in one hotel and four different Airbnbs. The hotel was fine. I have no real complaints. I used Airbnb for the first time in December of 2015, and the experience was so perfect that it sold me on the idea. I’ve even used it when traveling internationally. But the days of hospitality are over. Two of the Airbnbs I used were great, and I mean as perfect as they could be. The other two cancelled out the two good ones. Whether it be people just not giving a shit, or outright deceptive practices, Airbnb is pretty much dead to me.
I’d rather stay in a shabby motel than deal with outright lies in Airbnb listings, or ones that don’t even have filters for their coffee machine or a salt and pepper shaker. And don’t give me that crap about how bad guests can be. Just stop renting them out if you can’t be the slightest bit competent as an entrepreneur.
It occurred to me that with the massive decline in everything from customer service to a restaurant not even being able to open their entire establishment due to a lack of help, anyone who is actually competent at what they do should be thriving right now. From the reports I get, most businesses can’t find good help, so if you are willing to just show up and do your job competently, you should be able to write your own ticket. Those willing to do extra should be at the top of their field. Show up early, do your job perfectly, and leave late. I know that sounds like some Boomer-tier shit, but it’s what has always worked and should make you stand out, especially in times such as these where most people just don’t appear to give a crap. I imagine everyone reading this already knows this, but maybe someone needs to hear it.
The palpable decline in customer service is something that normiecons are noticing as well. My parents often talk to me about how younger people don't seem to care about their jobs and hate being there. It wasn't nearly this bad 10 years ago," is common phrase to hear in these conversations. Which I'd have to agree with.
This is 100% true. I've always said that most of success in business, any business, is just getting things done, and that's triply true nowadays.
