I've long contended that the most important issue in our lives is property tax on homes, its existence forces you to operate within the US dollar economy or the state takes it all away. It should be the #1 goal of all people who care about freedom moving forward. It can also be accomplished on a local level which is where it exists. It's not like the federal, or in many cases the state government, collects these taxes.
Secondly on the freedom to build structures, my idea has always been that you should be able to take your own risks on your own property as long as you cannot damage another. My simple proposal is that you can build any structure on your own property that, if it completely toppled over, would not land on a neighboring parcel.
That's it, that's the standard.
Reminding people that humanity has existed forever without building codes, and that many of those structures still stand today, is a good approach to selling this.
Lolbert society will be Mad Max world. They seem to think that in the absence of institutions, norms and culture that society will just function without any kind of maintenance. Institutions and the maintenance of those institutions (getting them Right and keeping them Right) will be IMO the most important part of this society.
There's no complete property ownership with property taxes. Without complete ownership, there cannot be true freedom. It's a drag on your life. All the local government has to do is raise property taxes significantly and you become homeless and destitute.
hoppe makes a great argument that if your values are libertarian, monarchy achieved them better historically and that liberal democracy has degraded them the most...so much so that all the problems people had with monarchy (taxation and conscription etc) were only made dramatically worse.
Many people come to the understanding that libertarian or objectivist values are objectively better....but few come to realize how dire the situation and what it takes to defend them.
The free market will never exist and playing by the rules of a non-existent utopian ideal only allows the enemy to get an upper hand as they have no allusions about it.
Obviously the preference would be less government interference in the market, but strategic use of favors, job creation, and money is necessary to enrich your friends and base to maintain power.
School choice in a way is patronage for the right people. It’s less direct than others, but it’s providing money and resources to people in a way that takes power from the enemy.
There has to be other creative ways to do this. Eliminating property taxes all together is great, maybe the start of that process is to eliminate property taxes and red tape for small businesses.
People who bring up communist utopias and other ideologies based in theft of what I maintain need to be left out of society. I am all for free speech and the consequences you pay for conspiring to steal or create a gang to steal from others openly. To me, the rhetoric needs to change. When we allow people to talk and be respectful of them when they are plotting to steal your shit as if it were a fucking philosophy, people need to call it out and condemn them for even attempting to incite that kind of violence.
“We the People” were to “secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.” ❤️ asking permission for our rights is ridiculous. Thanks for reiterating this. Excellent all around too.

Rifle towers all through our covenant community
I like that you pointed that out - structures still standing today in which there weren’t building codes. 😂
Probably some rifle towers still standing too
