First off for the “virtue signaler,” no I do not pay for Disney+, and even if I did and you don’t, HOORAY FOR YOU!! It’s not hard to watch anything you want to if you know what you’re doing and know that IP is bullshit (praise Kinsella, a real “heavyweight”).
Now, on to the greatest Star Wars content since Empire. Favreau has done what needed to be done and you have to give it to the execs for allowing him what seems to be unlimited freedom. He is a fan who was basically given a bigger budget than you’d expect to write what is probably the greatest fan-fiction ever in the SW universe. Seriously, if you’re reading this and are a fan of 4-6 and haven’t watched you’ll be amazed.
You can argue with me but season 1 was really just a “getting-to-know-you.” We learn about the code of the Mandalorian and that there is a creature who looks like Yoda that is only referred to as “the child” but who we all call “Baby Yoda.” We also find out that this is only five years after the 2nd death star is destroyed.
As I mentioned in a previous post things have gotten worse in many areas and that is highlighted. After that there are standalone adventures culminating in the realization that, of course, an officer from the defeated Empire, Moff Gideon (Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito), is commanding soldiers including stormtroopers (who still can’t hit the broad side of a barn and this is even mocked in a classic scene). His main mission is to kidnap “the child” and it isn’t until the latest episode, season 2 episode 4, that we are given a hint as to why.
Season 2 so far has been a perfect build up to episode 4 where so much of what has been happening off screen is revealed. I felt as if we were thrown right back into the original trilogy as there were so many callbacks that it was hard to spot every one.
What is killing me personally is that in episode one of season 2 (and this is a real spoiler so stop reading now) we see Boba Fett at the end. No explanation of how he escaped the Sarlacc is provided and may not in this series as it has been rumored that there will be a Boba Fett series. In my opinion he will be revealed by season’s end because the rumor is that it will take place between “Return” and The Mandalorian Season 2, so why not?
Honestly, it’s just nice to have a piece of something I enjoyed as a kid to act as a distraction during the worst year of most of our lives (some may disagree about that and that’s fine). I’ll probably write something up after the finale next month but until then, if you’re a fan, I hope you’re enjoying it as much as I am. If you haven’t watched and are a fan of 4-6, take my advice and give it a shot.
Just watched the latest episode. Another winner. I am digging this shit.
It's literally the best thing on tv right now...not that I technically watch tv. Pete got it right: Favreau is a fan. He can weave a hell of a story and he may be an SJW on the street, but he doesn't let it ruin the story...at least for now.
And what a story it is. I think this is the most well crafted Star Wars saga yet. In fact, I think it's the best storyline yet.
I'm more convinced than ever that Jon is a big fan of the game Knights Of The Old Republic (KOTOR). I've spent many hours playing that game (and the sequel) and this has that feel. Frankly, I don't care what his inspiration is...as long as it stays good. Nah...stays great.
I love this shit.
