There are many schools of thought when it comes to immigration. My former position was simple: I hated cops and cops (Border Patrol) enforced immigration. That’s the most simplistic explanation. It basically broke down to the fact that I believed the government was illegitimate and therefore their edicts were by default illegitimate. But the reason for my change in approach had nothing to do with either of those.
I have come to believe and now promote the idea that politics at the local level is the way forward. At least until someone friendly to my worldview takes power nationally. I’m not holding my breath that will happen in my lifetime, so localism is where I’m hanging my hat. So how does immigration affect that? The more people you have in your area who are alien to your ideas, the harder it will be to implement your vision.
As I watched reports of thousands of Haitians trying to cross the border from Mexico into Texas last year, the question in my mind was: are these MEN BETWEEN THE AGES OF 18-35 coming here to help build my vision of a local polity designed to end entitlements and privatize public services that should’ve been put in private hands long ago? My thoughts immediately went to my former self who called himself an anarcho-capitalist. I pondered as to whether any anarcho-capitalist believed these Haitian MEN BETWEEN THE AGES OF 18-35 were coming here to help build Ancapistan. Or did their numbers just add to the millions who love the State and would fight to keep it?
Believing you are going to achieve Ancapistan on a grand scale, to me, is insane enough without the country being overrun by people whose beliefs are antithetical to Ancapism. I can only see this being approached at the local level. And, in my opinion, that destroys the idea of Libertarian or Ancap universalism for the last time. And honestly, good riddance!
"Are these MEN BETWEEN THE AGES OF 18-35 coming here to help build my vision of a local polity designed to end entitlements and privatize public services?" If you don't guffaw or spit milk out your nose when you ask this question, you are a liar to yourself. The better question though is "what are they coming for?" And since we know the answer is FREE SHIT, if we just made a pledge within certain states not to offer ANY assistance except to help them get to the states where they can get what they are looking for (direct unimpeded travel accommodations) I think this country as a whole will become a far less welcoming looking nation to freeloaders quite soon. Is that not already evident?
The borders of a country are hard lines, manned by cops. The borders of a nation, are invisible, and must be maintained through cultural forces. That means high-character, high-accountability, and high standards. Do these 3rd world cutters pouring off gooberment funded buses all over the place look like high-character men to you? They look like tomorrow's dishwasher at best. We have been trading down for decades, and this current situation is a deliberate effort to destabilize western nations. We owe these people less than nothing.
