People throw the term “civilization” around like they do the term “democracy,” and I don’t think most people give a thought as to what those terms mean when they’re using them. Like “freedom,” civilization is just a nebulous idea that most people think means being able to attain certain goods and live in a house that won’t kill them due to mold. But that’s not what I think of when I hear that word.
Oxford’s dictionary defines civilization as:
the stage of human social and cultural development and organization that is considered most advanced.
In my opinion, Oxford’s definition is as meaningful as the average person’s. A group could be “advanced,” but conduct themselves in a way that causes you to not only have to worry about getting your throat slit on the way to your car, but also be concerned that your grandmother could end up homeless on the street. Civilization, first and foremost, should mean order.
People who view economics as their religion scoff at countries like Iceland and Sweden, which have huge entitlement programs for THEIR people. Of course, someone who has been raised in the multicultural, illegal immigration hellhole that is the United States would look down upon entitlements going to someone who just arrived or someone who is not part of their culture. And they should; that person doesn’t belong here. Iceland and Sweden—up until at least Sweden was assaulted with weaponized immigration—are countries with homogenous peoples. Many Swedes and Icelanders are related and come from a culture that is more insular than America could ever be, except at the most local levels. Family still means something to many people outside of this federal cauldron of filth. Icelanders and Swedes should want “their people” taken care of, not the invaders. If you’ve been taught that you don’t have a people but are an individual, is it any wonder that when your country is falling apart around you, especially due to illegal immigration, you either don’t care or default to your in-group? But even there you push back. Not caring is what you were taught to do, but anyone who tells you to care about those in your in-group or culture is just a socialist, right?
How can we be considered a civilization if there is no concerted effort to be civilized? In a truly civilized society, would people even need to consciously try? People who invoke civilization see stories such as this one and scoff at those living as such, or just don’t care. If those were your neighbors and in-group living in caves, is that not a condemnation of your society? You may say that because that’s California, that’s not your problem. But do you follow that attitude to its logical conclusion and do everything you can to make where you live appear civilized? No? Then how do you think we will ever achieve order? Sometimes it may have to start with an individual reminding their in-group that they are part of something bigger than themselves and that the way we fix what ails us is to come together and decide change must happen. That takes a willingness to act. I hope everyone sees that’s the stage we’re at and chooses order. It’s the only way.
