This will be short but I have to get it off my chest. I still see libertarians/anarchists/voluntaryists on social media hash-tagging and even using as their screen names (mostly Twitter) “slogans” like “Taxation is Theft,” etc. Great, yes, it is. But after 12 months of authoritarianism is that still all you got? People on the Right are waking up to police tyranny. Many normies on the Left hated the riots from last year. Tens of millions want the lockdowns ended. These are concrete subjects that can be addressed and those against the tyranny and riots do not need bumper sticker platitudes, they need in your face ideas!
One of the main problems I had with Jacob Hornberger’s messaging during his campaign to be the presidential nominee of the Libertarian Party in 2020 was that he often chose to lead his messaging with two subjects that immediately cause controversy; open borders and ending social security.
In my opinion, there is no libertarian border position other than all property should be private thus making crossing onto it trespassing. Other than that, either the State or federal government makes border policy. You can have an opinion on how that may be handled, but is that a libertarian position? Sorry, it’s not.
Leading with a message of abolishing social security, thereby ending the way tens of millions pay for food and housing, especially in the middle of a totalitarian move by governors to shut down the economy, is equivalent to taking people’s guns - their means of personal protection - in the middle of a natural disaster when people are desperate (see Hurricane Katrina). I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Having an antiwar message on September 12, 2001 is brave. Talking about taking away many people’s only source of income during a government induced catastrophe is insanity.
One thing the State has given us in the last year are talking points that people can actually relate to. Normal people are living the consequences of the State’s madness. If you’re still relying on bumper sticker slogans at this point maybe you are comfortable with everything that has happened. If you aren’t, then start addressing those talking points, delete the bumper sticker slogans, and strive to make a real impact.
I am talking about mask restrictions and libertarians still want to tell me which mask is better or debate whether they do anything at all rather than notice that the virus is a pretext for world domination- the virus is a pretext for WWIII: the govts vs the people. How are there libertarians and anarchists in existence that understand that govt lies on every level to strengthen itself off the ignorance and gullibility of the coorperative people still buying into this and justifying and promoting cooperation when there is a clear trail of transfer of wealth being reported even in the mainstream?
But Pete! Be a walking billboard and say TiT and you get lots of likes and follows. Say anything of substance and you might receive a like and a comment or two. I broke down parts of Jonas Salk's book 'Survival of The Wisest', The Club of Rome's 'Limits to Growth' and 'The Final Global Revolution', and Schwab's 2018 book "Shaping the Fourth Industrial Revolution' you know, to warn others and to, you know, shine some light on their golden calf "capitalism". I even made a thread on the play "The Bacchae" in regards to the color revolution over the summer. It didn't get much play compared to sloganeering. People are simple creatures, they want to feel like they belong with the ideological branding they espouse.
