"There’s a sucker born every minute!" Whether PT Barnum originated that phrase or not isn’t important. What is important about that phrase is realizing how true it is when it comes to American politics. Many people who lived in former Eastern Bloc countries confessed that they knew that any information or facts presented by the regime they lived under were more than likely lies. Americans, on the other hand, can say that they know the 2020 election was stolen in one breath, and in the next say, "2024 is the most important election of our lifetime!" One can call people who make contrasting statements morons, most likely they are, but it also reveals a combination of desperation and hope, which, if you consider it honestly, should elicit sadness for them.
To beat this point to death, it is impossible for me to believe that someone who is of the opinion that the 2020 presidential election count was engineered to ensure Donald Trump was not re-elected, somehow believes that the 2024 process will not also be compromised against their preferred candidate. From my understanding, the only state that has sought to reverse changes in the voting process that were outlined in this Time Magazine article is Florida (if I am mistaken, please leave a comment correcting me). Florida is one "swing state" of many and its 29 electoral votes will only take a candidate so far.
Now let’s assume one’s preferred "reformer" candidate does win the 2024 presidential election; what do you expect them to accomplish? The most realistic answer is that they can push through numerous "executive orders," which would begin to dismantle this Leviathan-like federal system. I mention executive orders because you’d have to be a fool to think Congress would vote to reduce the power of the federal government, thus removing the power they wield. So, if you are putting your faith in your preferred candidate to dismantle via executive order, you should probably be aware that the next president after your hero can reverse those executive orders by issuing his own. The federal legislative and executive actions are a never-ending circle. Congress passes laws and programs that will later be overwritten by Congress itself (good luck! – because it is not the “bad” policies that will be overturned). Should Congress fail to change a law or program, the executive will step in and issue an executive order, knowing full well the next occupant of the office will issue a contradicting executive order. This is all done to give the voting public the illusion that permanent changes are occurring. Once you gain this understanding, you begin to realize the only solution to the problem of Washington, DC is to change the system. And that solution is something that causes cognitive dissonance in people who still believe “voting changes things” at the federal level.
This is the point when people ask for solutions and I start to sound like a broken record: get out of cities, concentrate on increasing your income and acquiring hard assets, and become active locally, even if that only means becoming someone of influence. It’s been a while since I mentioned the concept of natural elites. These are the people who used to be called the "pillars of the community." They’re the people who care about the local community and would do anything to see it thrive and be a safe place to raise your kids. I know there are pillars of the community reading this right now. Your fellow citizens need your guidance and wisdom right now. Please do what you can. If you sat the average person down and asked them, they would rather be led by you, someone local that they respect, than by any of the people in Washington, DC. Please step up!
"stolen / most important EVER!" you're on point Pete.
When people tell me this, I ask what's changed in the system (and culture) that will make this trip on the merry go round different? What's god-emperor Trump going to do differently IF he gets 'elected'? If the answer is anything short of becoming the person you and Dr. Gottfried talked about then it's not enough. Not enough by a long shot.
It's very cliché, but you know what they say about the definition of insanity...
Dude, i was in the middle of a long ass comment when my asshole wife called me bc she has to call me 20 times a day because she's an asshole.
Bullet Points
- no political fixes or solutions, but Desantis brings something different to table
- first republican i can remember wanting to use dept of education to punish enemies instead of abolishing it. Him becoming dominant player in gop makes things interesting
-sidenote - TYT Libs sound like originalists with 14th amendment and debt ceiling. This is hilarious stuff. Cenk vs. Destiny debate highlights this. More evidence that these fucking robots believe in nothing. They will be great followers of RW Caesar when the time comes bc they worship power.
