When you read the amount of material I do and interview countless people on a variety of subjects, it’s easy to become distracted. Constantly going back over the basics is important, and I often forget to do that for long stretches.
Even before 2020, I was beginning to question the core of the political belief system I had adopted. And yes, a political ideology is a BELIEF system to be taken on faith since it will never materialize in reality. But 2020 was jarring for anyone who understands the human condition. If, after 2020, the human condition still isn’t evident to you, well, then you probably still live in a fantasyland in your head. And that’s fine. Just stay away from me.
COVID, the ANARCHO-TYRANNY (I capitalize and stress this for the “anarchists in their heads” who hate the term) of the George Floyd riots, a stolen election, and then the 2021 cherry on top, January 6th, proved that not only is the regime-in-power your enemy, but they will target individuals who are stupid enough to step over even the thinnest of lines. That doesn’t mean they’re itching to bust down your door for a tweet, but most of the people who believe there are jack booted thugs just outside their doors are the ones that possess opinions that are of no real threat to the regime in the first place.
In February of 2021, my phone rang, and the person calling was one of those people you immediately drop everything and answer the phone for. We proceeded to talk about the previous year and the enemies that clearly presented themselves as such. And not only those enemies in power, but the strangers we encountered everywhere and even our neighbors. He then said, and I’ll never forget this: “Going forward, I don’t care if someone is a libertarian or not; there’s who wants to see me dead and who doesn’t.” I remember hearing that simple statement and thinking, “That’s it, that’s the line!” It was very straightforward, but as I often do, I had to complicate things. And ideology is the easiest thing to let get in the way of the simple, clear path onward.
When you begin to put aside ideology for what is practical (like survival), people who have adopted an ideology begin to push back for whatever reason. I honestly don’t know the ideology of Bukele in El Salvador, but I can look at what he’s done and judge that no matter what wall he’s kissed, what he’s doing appears to be in direct opposition to the way Globohomo likes to see the countries they control run. So, until I see him line up with my enemies in his actions, I will consider him as someone who doesn’t want me dead. It really is that simple, and if you are making it any more difficult, you really are acting like the libertarian or communist who screams, “That’s not real [insert ideology here]…!”
Dang man. Good stuff. I needed this.
