The corporate journalists (CJ) have the story of their lives. Alien life has been confirmed and they are on their way to earth to introduce themselves. The ratings for the evening news are through the roof. The nightly news programs show politicians frantically running to and fro through the halls of Congress. The president is depicted with a phone to his ear at all times, highlighting that he is conferring with other world leaders.
The citizenry can only look on in puzzlement as politicians and CJs do not look alarmed. They seem almost calm. What many people fantasized about as children is about to come true. There is life in the universe other than ours.
Religious leaders are one of the exceptions. What are they to make of this? A popular Midwestern, evangelical pastor tries to calm his congregation explaining that if these lifeforms do exist, then certainly the God of the Bible created them. And if these visitors haven’t heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ, it is the faithful’s duty to preach it to them. While his flock is confused about what is happening, the pastor’s words make sense to them.
Members of the military industrial complex are another group who looks on with skepticism. They make the bombs, planes and ordinance that will be needed if these aliens mean us harm. Why aren’t their close partners at the Pentagon contacting them? What do they know that they’re not sharing?
America becomes a societal soup of endless hope and paralyzing fear. Neighbors begin to argue over the visitors’ intentions. Terms like “fake news” are thrown around by those who don’t trust the corporate press (CP) while many people are already spinning a narrative that the travelers are coming here to deliver some form of technology that will end scarcity which will in turn lead to a utopia. People referring to themselves as “pragmatics” are convinced that if these aliens are coming to help, it will be in the form of showing us the path to abundance, but it will be on us to put in the work to get there. Tensions are high among the population as the day approaches.
Ok, Quinones... We are talking about uncertainty, but the people who are paid to be skeptical, to ask questions, to have a multitude of solutions for the infinite unaccounted for variable eventualities, have got one certain mindset about the future. They have one projected outcome. They are calm and unwavering. They tell everyone to panic and kiss their ass goodbye for the most part and that everyone will die if we don't do X,Y,Z and even if we do, most will still die, but they themselves are the most publicly nonchalant about not doing X, Y or Z. The future is *supposed* to be uncertain. That's what we all believe. We aren't in The Truman Show where life is unavoidably preprogrammed and scripted. Thus, how are all of these "experts" and "officials" acting as though they are the directors and producers calling the shots without a doubt and why are the officials out of sync with their own stated projections? Their actions really appear to be more and more aligned with one who is on the opposite side of the camera even when they happen to be in front of it.
